This page is in English edition of Japanese one to recap my 2019 and go toward to 2020.
My work style has been changed in late 2018 since I changed work company from Japane-based one to US-based startup. Thus, I should have worked remotely with overseas colleagues until I get a working VISA. (Personally, I want to work with colleagues closely, so I hope the VISA stuff will work well)
In the middle of last year, I started to use Brave and DuckDuckGo as the primary tool except for work. They work well for me, so far. It notifies me how many ads/trackers are around my life. The number was massive than I expected.
Work
I work in HeadSpin as a senior software engineer. The main skill set is server/infrastructure and mobile/native app automation stuff. My primary programming language is Python, I hadn’t used it well before. Swift, Kotlin/Java, JavaScript, and Go as well. My main experience was Test/QA/Automation, but I fully work as a developer for now.
All of my experiences has helped recent work very much, such as system design/architect and programming. My OSS work also has helped me so much.
I felt in the current company had a different culture than my previous Japanese companies. The culture was mainly about management and prioritisation in the organisation. Communication style is also different. I confused at first, but recently I got used to the culture.
OSS
I have worked for Appium project as OSS activities. iOS 13/Xcode 11 and Android 10 support were one of the hardest work for that in this year. I created a prototype for flutter appium driver as early experimental.
AppiumConf 2019 was a very impressive conference for me since I joined as a committer. I attended the last committer panel discussion to discuss Appium stuff.
Others
I wrote an iOS testing book as a co-author and an article for veriserve newspaper. They were very exciting experiences, but they drained much of my personal time.
SeConfTokyo 2019 was also exciting conference I joined as an organiser. The start point was in 2017. We finally accomplished the work.
Wrap up
2019 had many achievements. The big ones had been started since 2018 such as the iOS testing book, SeConf and AppiumConf. My work environment change also gave me a brilliant experience. I want to continue to dedicate the work.
Year 2020 –
Everything depends on where we will live in. If my VISA stuff works well, my relocation will be one big challenge for us. I predict we must focus on building our life environment there.
I would like to continue to dedicate my OSS work for Appium in 2020, and read more books I bought in 2019.
