Learned “The Oxford Guide to Effective Writing and Speaking”

Read and learned English basic stuff by The Oxford Guide to Effective Writing and Speaking.

I’m an English learner as a second language to improve my english skills. Recent my life and work are close to English world, so I have been learned English stuff via various ways. This book is one of them.

The book was really interesting since it has a couple of important sections.

The first is how we can use english in various situations. Business letters, email etc. For business letters. We should avoid using jargon, many long sentences, many passive forms, trying to be too clever and too blunt. Ah, they are not special for English. I believe they are almost natural thing for most of letter case… In email section, the book addressed the changes from paper communication to electronic ones, which were not only email but also social media and e-books. We also tend to prefer short/summarised articles than long and solid one. The 1st section told me such important things.

The 2nd was crossing messages with someone. It also shoed various situation a speaker and the listener, discussion etc. How to tell some topics to another person.

The 3rd was English as communication tools. English has been developed, so the grammar also has been changed. If you learned basic English stuff such as pronunciation, grammatical things and vocabularies, this section is not new.

The last thing was ‘writing’. How to improve the skill and the usage of dictionaries etc. This section is not only ‘writing’ but also understanding/getting ideas to improve such skills. Dictionaries, books etc give you hints for it. The section indicated such things. (BTW, I did not know ‘.’ was ‘full stop’. I thought it was only ‘period’. Interesting…

This book gave me many tips to improve my English skills. Would love to read again and again.
